Most Memorable Moment at Tomb:
There are two memorable moments for me.  For Many years the Tomb Guards had participated in Wreath Laying Ceremonies honoring the Unknown Soldiers, but never placed a wreath themselves.  The idea was discussed with my Relief, since we were working Christmas Day in 1959.

We were given permission to lay a wreath and we elected SP4 Jay D. Fuerst, the senior Guard on 1st Relief, to lay the wreath.  Major General C.K. Gailey, the MDW Commander, was the host and was accompanied by the MDW Chaplain, Colonel Joseph Chmielewski.

I was married in February 1960, and the 1st Relief was part of the wedding party.  My wife, Ruth, and I have 6 children and 9 grand children.  The Tomb Guards have always been a part of my family.
