One of the main goals for the Society has been to educate young American's about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and what it represents. We do this by talking to students in the class room. From High School Seniors to Second Graders, current and former Tomb Guards have been educating and making an impact on future generations.

The Society offers teachers a chance to have guests in the class room. Each Tomb Guard brings a different view of the Tomb to the class room, from the 1960's to 2002. For those areas that a Tomb Guard cannot get to, we offer a presentation that can be played with or with out a Tomb Guard.
Students, Military and Civic Organizations should contact the Education Committee Chairman for questions concerning educational programs and talks by former and current Tomb Guards:
"Hello,
Yesterday we were honored to have been visited by Mr. Meredith Smith, representing SHGTUS. This was by far, the most important assembly that I have ever scheduled in the area of Cultural Arts!
The accolades just keep coming in! While it is a mystery to me as to how Mr. Smith could capture and hold the attention of kindergartners through teachers, he very easily accomplished this! He brought along visual props (his shoes, flag, an oar [substituting for an air rifle, as nothing resembling a weapon is permitted in the schools], etc. The children loved...LOVED...when he demonstrated how a guard would respond to someone approaching the tomb. We all jumped!
One of the areas of Mr. Smith's talk that was very meaningful was the fact that he integrated such topics as 'respect', and 'integrity'. I'm afraid that these basic qualities have been overshadowed by sports, technology, etc., in much of our society today.
In closing, I would like to thank you so much for offering this educational program! It is so important for American History and Patriotism to be taught at an early age, yet clearly our school curriculums are not always achieving this. With the help of your programs, many little lives will be touched and enriched.
I might add that I love your web site --- the history, the photos, everything! Thank you for volunteering your time and energies into making it what it is. (I actually came upon the idea of an assembly quite by accident.... we were planning a trip to the Tomb and I logged on to see what time the changing of the guard would take place. One page led to another, and in no time I was making arrangements for Mr. Smith to visit us at Norrisville School) A special thank you to Mr. John Royal Porter for his assistance in arranging this for me.
Finally, to each of the Society members, I send my greatest extension of gratitude for their contribution to our freedom. May God bless each of them; May God continue to bless America and to keep us forever safe."Sincerely,
