After the Army:
Upon discharge I hopped a C130 to Spain and expended two months of
hoarded leave backpacking Europe. Thank you Uncle Sam. Back in the states I
spent a number of years in school eventually graduating in Neuroscience and
English from Colgate University and then attending medical school in New York.
During my summer vacations I learned a bit of carpentry and cabinetry skills
which I still try to pursue. In 2000 I was lucky enough to marry the lovely
Angela McCorkle Thomas and now we live in Manhattan where she works as an
international accounts manager for Calvin Klein Inc. I am currently training in
surgery.
Current
Occupation:
House Officer in the Department of Surgery, The St
Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital
Degrees/Schooling:
BA, Colgate University 1995. (English literature and neuroscience)
M.D. College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University
Most Memorable Moment at Tomb:
The
wife a man still missing in action from the Vietnam War who spoke to me prior to
a wreath laying ceremony she was to participate in. She moved me when she said
that although there were days that she didn’t think of her brother she knew
that we were thinking of him always.
For me that statement, more than any other, clarified the purpose of the
guard.
