After the Army:
I returned to college in the Denver, Colorado area and completed my Bachelor's
degree in Organizational Management. My wife and I lived in the Boulder,
Colorado area for about two years. I worked for Fortune 31, a medical software
company, in Human Resources. Our daughter was born while we lived there which
motivated us to move back to where we originated from (Indiana) in order to
raise her around Grandparents. Upon moving home, I began to work for the Mayor
of Valparaiso as the City's Economic Development Planner.
Family Information:
Married my wife, Christian Hanna on December 22, 1995. She was with
me during my tour at the tomb. As a matter of fact, I spent the better part of
the first year of our marriage in Airborne School, R.O.P. for the Old Guard and
the New Soldier Training Program at the Tomb and we are still married! I think
she knew the knowledge as well as I did! She holds a bachelor's degree in
Nursing from Marrimount University in Arlington, VA and is a Cardiac ICU Nurse.
Our daughter is Madison Grace Hanna and shares the same birthday as my wife. She
is the greatest gift we have ever received. She was born October 14th, 2000.
Current
Occupation:
Economic Development Planner, City of Valparaiso, Indiana and Vice President,
Valparaiso Economic Development Corp.
Degrees/Schooling:
Bachelor's degree in Organizational Management from Colorado Christian
University
Currently fulltime student working towards an MBA (Master's of Business
Administration) at National Lewis University, Chicago Campus.
Most Memorable Moment at Tomb:
I have many life-shaping memories from the tomb. I have yet to learn so
much, make as good of friends or feel so right about a mission or occupation. I
was repeatedly humbled by the sacrifices made by our veterans and moved by their
patriotism and undying dedication to this country. The experience has been so
powerful in my life that I see it as a large part of the base from which I
build. The experience was a complete blessing from God and one that required so
little sacrifice from me for so much enrichment. It is unfair for me to comment
on the experience without expressing my gratitude for the unbelievable
sacrifices made by the Unknowns and their comrades that answered the call of
this nation, met death and harm face to face and did not fail us.
We, as Sentinel's, take the guarding of the Unknowns seriously because of this understanding. Therefore, I would have to say that being directly involved in the disinterment of the Vietnam Unknown was my most memorable experience. To move the casket we had stood careful watch over was surreal and touching.
