Most Memorable Moment at Tomb:
I look back fondly with many wonderful memories; two stand out.

My first walk in front of the public was on a Sunday morning in September 1970. The cemetery would just be opening and no one should be there for the "change." About 15 minutes before I was to go up I noticed the guys act a little different, almost protective. When I finally went upstairs, and turned to look towards the Tomb, I saw the biggest crowd I had seen since Memorial Day. Unknown to us, Cardinal Cook from New York City (my home town) came with many bus loads of Pilgrims to visit The Shrine
of Immaculate Conception, the Kennedy grave side and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I seemed to have made it through the change and walk without incident. I think Bob Condon and Mike Lahr gave me a C+ and Sgt Kiehl gave me the base boards to paint.

My second and most sentimental was December 1970 when my parents came to see me for the first time. Every sentinel reading this can identify with the emotions of the moment.
